Our Inspiration

Bucephalus (Βουκεφάλας), was the horse of Alexander the Great. The name Bucephalus means “ox head” in Ancient Greek, which refers to the birthmark of Bucephalus which looked like an ox.

Bucephalus was originally offered to King Philip II, the father of Alexander the Great. The horses breeding was known as the “best of Thessalian strain”. He was described of having a black coat with blue eyes. The only problem with the horse was that no one was able to tame him.

Alexander said that he would tame the horse. He said that if he couldn’t he would pay for the horse with his life.

Once Alexander took the horse, he noticed that it was afraid of its own shadow. So he faced Bucephalus in the direction of the sun, which allowed Bucephalus to overcome his fear. Then Alexander was able to tame the horse

Alexander the Great conquered the world on top of Bucephalus until his death during the Battle of Hydaspes.

Alexander the Great named the city where his beloved horse passed away Alexandria Bucephalus. A village in Kashmir called Bufliaz claims to be that city.

Bucephalus serves as a symbol for overcoming fear and conquering it.
